Five Things You Didn’t Know About John Melia:

1. The Wounded Warrior Project, one of his greatest accomplishments, helps returning military vets become re-acclimated to life after active duty. John and his family started WWP in 2003 simply by filling backpacks with comfort items (playing cards, CDs, and clothing) and delivering the packs to young men and women recovering in hospitals.

2. He currently leads Goverline, a logistics and supply chain management company, and The Raiser Group, a non-profit consultancy group.

3. While still in college, John enlisted in the National Guard. John volunteered for the Marine Corp during the Persian Gulf War, serving in Iraq before transferring to Somalia as part of Operation Restore Hope.  There he worked directly for General Peter Pace, the former Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It was in Somalia that John’s life changed forever. In 1992, John was in a helicopter accident off the coast of Somalia. He suffered from burns and other injuries.

4. John and his family live in Jacksonville, Florida, where they enjoy tailgating at Jacksonville Jaguars games.

5. Not only does he love to golf, but he could spend hours watching The Golf Channel too.

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Sara Lancaster:

1. She is the primary writer and company founder at No. 2 Pen, a copy writing agency located in Denver, Colorado.

2. Sara and John met in 2009 all because of a Google search. They work together on various marketing and writing projects…including this one!

3. Her professional background includes a degree in journalism from the University of Colorado, work as a paralegal, time served as a marketing manager for a non-profit publisher, and of course, as a copywriter for dozens of small businesses.

4. She loves watching documentaries and foreign films, writing fiction, and eating raw cookie dough, but she rarely gets a chance to do any of these things.

5. Volunteerism is an important part of her personal and professional life. She has worked with a variety of organizations including Denver’s Family Tree.
